Companies that give their workers the option to telecommute are benefiting from improved employee health, greater productivity, and reduced costs. Those are among key findings of a survey released by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). More than two-thirds of survey respondents said their organizations have experienced higher productivity as a result of allowing employees to commute either full- or part-time. That's primarily a result of spending less time getting to and from work.
A quarter of those surveyed said telecommuting improves employee health, mainly through reduced stress levels associated with traditional commuting. And 18 percent cited better safety due to reduced highway use.
"With 'anywhere' connectivity, faster broadband options, and high-quality video and online conferencing choices, the opportunity for virtual offices is greater today and more affordable for businesses of all sizes and shapes," said Todd Thibodeaux, CompTIA president and CEO.
