The Work Loss Data Institute has released its 2009 State Report Cards for Workers' Comp. The findings are based on data from OSHA logs covering recordable injuries and illnesses and providing the basis for rating comp performance. The current report adds 4 years of data (2003 to 2006) to the rankings, for a total of 7 years.
According to the Work Loss Data Institute, the newest findings categorize success by measures that include incidence rates, missing-work cases, median disability durations, delayed recovery rates, and key conditions/low back strain.
In 2009, Iowa received the highest overall ranking, followed by Minnesota, based on scores in the above categories. Illinois ranked last, with Wyoming, Rhode Island, and New York close to the bottom.
