A company is facing $135,500 in fines after OSHA cited the company for violations of lockout/tagout and other workplace safety rules at its Naples, Florida, plant. The citations and proposed fines follow an inspection of an incident in which an employee was caught between machinery and a pallet while adjusting a machine switch, according to the agency. The employee sustained severe rib, lung, and shoulder injuries.

OSHA issued two willful citations, saying the company failed to apply lockout devices that would isolate all energy sources and render machinery inoperable during servicing or repair, and failed to guard machinery parts so they could not come in contact with employees. In addition, the agency cited the company for eight serious violations. Krehling Industries has 15 working days to contest the OSHA citations and proposed penalties.

Lockout/tagout safety rules can help protect your workers from injury and your company from fines, but staying compliant is no easy task. That’s why a subscription to Safety.BLR.com is a must-have, with 24/7 access to hundreds of customizable safety training resources and analyses of federal and state compliance issues, including lockout/tagout rules.
