Following an inspection initiated under OSHA’s targeted-inspection program, the agency has proposed $104,000 in fines for Ormet Primary Aluminum Corp. of Hannibal, Ohio, saying the company violated machine-guarding and other workplace-safety rules.

The inspection was the latest of more than 80 OSHA inspections of the company over the last 30 years, resulting in some 315 citations. Following the most recent inspection, OSHA issued citations for 17 alleged serious violations and one alleged willful violation of federal workplace-safety regulations. OSHA says it issued the willful citation for the company’s alleged failure to install guarding to protect workers from a sprocket wheel and chain. The company has 15 working days from receipt of the citations to appeal.
