National Summary

There are numerous health and safety issues associated with healthcare facilities, including bloodborne pathogens and biological hazards; potential chemical and drug exposures; waste anesthetic gas exposures; ergonomic hazards from lifting and repetitive tasks; laser hazards; laboratory hazards; and radioactive material and X-ray hazards. There are also many nonmedical positions in health care, including in maintenance, housekeeping, food service, laundry, and administration.
