National Summary

OSHA has no specific requirements regarding specific lifting and carrying techniques or the prevention of back injuries. However, these types of accidents are so common in the workplace that training in the prevention of back injuries is highly recommended. The need for such training is implied by the General Duty Clause of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which requires employers to provide a place of employment that is "free of recognized hazards" that may cause serious physical harm.
