National Summary

OSHA has developed detailed regulations related to the proper design and use of ladders and scaffolds (29 CFR 1910.25 to 1910.29) because careless use and maintenance of ladders and scaffolds are a frequent cause of falls, injuries and, occasionally, deaths. There are separate requirements for wooden ladders, portable metal ladders, and fixed ladders. The regulations describe everything from how far apart rungs should be to specific do's and don'ts for ladder safety.
