National Summary

OSHA requires strict protective measures against lead poisoning in 29 CFR 1910.1025. If there is any reason to believe workers may be exposed to lead, employers are required to monitor airborne lead levels without accounting for respirators. OSHA rules specify a maximum Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) of 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air over an 8-hour period, which is the highest concentration of lead that is permitted without using respirators and other protection.
