National Summary

OSHA requires special clothing and equipment in general industry and construction workplaces to protect employees from contact with hazardous or toxic chemicals, hazardous wastes, and other substances. Employers must use personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce employee exposure to hazards when engineering and administrative controls are not feasible or effective. Employers are required to determine all exposures to hazards in the workplace and determine if PPE should be used to protect their workers.
