State:
Shift Work

National Summary

OSHA doesn't have a regulation specifically addressing shift work safety. Instead, it governs shift worker safety under the OSH Act's General Duty Clause. Statistically, accident rates are higher during night shifts, and employees who work long or irregular hours are at greater risk of injury. Shift workers also face a higher risk of stress-related health problems than employees who work regular hours. All this means that working shifts creates special safety and health problems that must be addressed.
