National Summary
OSHA regulates the operation and maintenance of electric power generation, control, transformation, transmission, and distribution lines and equipment under 29 CFR 1910.269. This includes installations of electric utilities, as well as equivalent installations of industrial establishments. Employees must be trained in the safety-related work practices, safety procedures, and other safety requirements that pertain to their respective job assignments. There are specific requirements for “qualified” employees. There are detailed requirement for operations near energized lines and equipment as well as requirements for medical services and first-aid, energy control procedures (lockout/tagout), fall protection, personal protective equipment, ladders, and hand and portable power tools.
