Cranes and Slings

National Summary

OSHA regulates cranes and slings in its material handling regulations. Cranes play an important role in moving certain types of materials. OSHA permits only trained, qualified employees to use this equipment. The slings that cranes use to hold suspended loads are also a key element in this kind of material handling. Slings are made of a variety of materials. The type of sling used is determined by the size and type of load and the environmental conditions in the work area.
