The $170 million undertaking will convert a vacant 250,000-square-foot manufacturing building into a computer data center. Approximately 12 subcontractors with 300 to 400 employees will work at the site for 9 to12 months.

All contractors and subs will be considered partners, which means they must have site-specific written safety and health programs.

Des Plaines Area Director Diane Turek noted: “We want to ensure all construction companies are prepared to effectively control the workplace hazards their employees may encounter.”

She said a key benefit of the partnership is the opportunity to “improve open and continuous communications among OSHA, employers, and workers.”
