Despite a 2014 OSHA rule that strengthened provisions that require employers to inform OSHA about work-related fatalities and serious injuries and illnesses, the Department of Labor’s (DOL) Office of Inspector General (OIG) found that OSHA’s data on these incidents are deficient as is its assurance that employers abated the hazards that contributed to the incidents.

One of the most effective ways to understand which types of incidents causing worker injury may occur in the workplace is to have a clear and comprehensive knowledge of which types of incidents have occurred in the past. The OSHA 300 log can be a valuable place to start.

September 20, 2018 (Proposed Rule) - FMCSA proposed to amend its May 27, 2015, Lease and Interchange of Vehicles; Motor Carriers of Passengers final rule in response to petitions for rulemaking and extend the January 1, 2019, compliance date to January 1, 2021. The proposal would narrow the applicability of the rule, by excluding from the definition of lease and the associated regulatory requirements, certain contracts and other agreements between motor carriers of passengers that have active passenger carrier operating authority registrations with FMCSA.
