Workplace Violence Prevention 2018: Domestic violence in the workplace is a clear and present danger

Although domestic violence usually occurs within the home, it all too often follows the victim into the workplace. A perpetrator knows where and when the victim works. To employers, this could become a clear and present danger. At BLR’s Workplace Violence Prevention Symposium in Savannah, Georgia, March 6 and 7, 2018, Lynn Fairweather, MSW, will present the educational session Domestic Violence: An Employer’s Role in Minimizing What Potentially Could Be Your Most Clear and Present Danger, in which she will focus on the serious nature of domestic violence in the workplace that warrants the attention of employers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention classifies domestic violence—or intimate partner violence (IPV)—as widespread, making workplaces particularly vulnerable targets. This session will examine how domestic violence enters your workplace, and it will provide steps to help you protect your workplace and your employees against domestic violence. You will learn about the warning signs of IPV and response-based strategies to prevent the danger of IPV.
