May is Employee Health and Fitness Month!

Did you know that a healthier workforce could mean a healthier bottom line? May is Employee Health and Fitness Month (EHFM), an excellent time to take steps to get your workers into shape. Organizers encourage employers to participate in activities that will increase awareness today and may lead to long-term improvements and lower healthcare costs.

For a Limited Time receive a FREE Safety Special Report on the "50 Tips For More-Effective Safety Training."  Receive 75 pages of useful safety information broken down into three training sections. Download Now

At the website, www.healthandfitnessmonth.org, you’ll find ideas for activities and ways to track, share, and promote individual and group accomplishments. Throughout the month, participating employers will encourage their employees to move more and eat better.

Strategies include:

  • Healthy moments: opportunities for healthy eating and physical activity such as going for a walk, cooking a healthy meal, taking an exercise class, or quitting smoking.
  • Healthy groups: walking, running, or cycling interest groups, sports teams, or healthy lunch gatherings.
  • A culminating project: an event or initiative that highlights health throughout the organization or community. Examples are planning a firmwide 5K or planting a community garden.

EHFM provides an opportunity to kick off or reenergize an existing health and wellness program. Learn more about participation and the benefits of a healthy workforce at the website. The observance is sponsored by the National Association for Health and Fitness and ACTIVE Life, a nonprofit health promotion organization.
