CDC’s Dr. Jose Bresee says that while it is not possible to predict the severity of the flu season, it is true that large numbers of people are getting sick, in some cases leading to severe illness and hospitalization.

So far this season, most of the flu viruses analyzed at the CDC are similar to those included in the 2012 to 2013 vaccine. The CDC recommends the use of antiviral medications such as Tamiflu and Relenza for older patients, those who are ill and at risk of complications, pregnant, or who have certain medical conditions.
