NIOSH sets ambitious agenda for 2013

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is pursuing an agenda packed with new and ongoing projects. According to NIOSH Director Dr. John Howard, the institute will continue to enlist new partners in its Total Worker Health initiative. A national conference on work, stress, and health will highlight new research in the field. It will be held in May in Los Angeles.

NIOSH researchers will focus on high-impact research and performance measurement, as well as on training for occupational safety and health professionals in response to a documented national need. Howard says NIOSH is also working in 2013 on the health and safety needs of emergency responders, including research to ensure that personal protective equipment keeps pace with emerging needs.

“A safe and healthy workforce is a vital component of U.S. economic growth and competitiveness. We look forward to further opportunities in 2013 to serve this national need,” added Howard.
