According to Warehouse Workers United, the employees involved primarily move Walmart merchandise, including luggage and pet supplies. The labor group says many earn less than $200 per week.

The 455,000-square-foot warehouse facility is operated by Olivet International and employs about 200 people. Their concerns were detailed in a complaint to Cal/OSHA.

Employee Miriam Garcia, who has worked at the site for 2 years, described conditions. “We are treated like animals and are often yelled at and told to work faster,” Garcia says. She noted falling boxes and forklifts that lack working brakes.

Other complaints include:

  • Blocked fire exits.
  • One bathroom available to workers.
  • Working inside pitch-black containers.
