This analysis covers the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) respirable crystalline silica standard for construction work (the construction silica standard). Construction work is defined as “work for construction, alteration, and/or repair, including painting and decorating.” Specifically, the analysis covers the permissible exposure limit (PEL), action level for exposure to silica, the two exposure control methods, respiratory protection, housekeeping, the written exposure control plan, the medical surveillance program, recordkeeping, and employee training.
