OSHA may have money for your training program

OSHA is giving away $1.5 million in grants for training and education as part of the agency’s Susan Harwood Training Grant Program. The money will be given to nonprofits, community groups, employer associations, labor unions, and colleges and universities.

The grants are intended to help workers and employers recognize safety and health hazards and prevention measures and understand their rights and responsibilities. According to Acting Labor Secretary Seth D. Harris, the grants will target hard-to-reach workers and those in high-hazard industries and small businesses.

This year, OSHA is particularly interested in funding programs that address fall protection in construction, agricultural safety, hair and nail salon hazards, ergonomics, hazard communication, injury and illness prevention programs, and workplace violence.

Although state and local governments are not eligible for the grants, government-supported colleges and universities may apply.

Learn more about the program and apply at http://www.grants.gov.  Applications must be received by June 13. OSHA encourages anyone interested in applying to get started as the application takes multiple days to complete.
